Facebook quote of the week

As an HGTV addict (Weekend mornings w/coffee only) I just would like to FOR ONCE hear someone say NO to open concept! Give me a separate square kitchen with a table in the middle and the little swinging door! I want the Happy Day’s kitchen. Or the Dick Van Dyke Show kitchen! There. I feel better.

Get your gun

Kurt Schlichter continues to be consistent - fighting hard for gun rights and other rights from the Bill of Rights.
Guess that makes him right, right?
Our right to speak and worship freely, and our right to keep and bear arms, were merely cited by the Constitution. That paper did not grant them. The government did not grant them, and the government cannot take them away. Every American was endowed with those rights by his Creator, and as long as we have the will to defend our rights, no collection of creeps is ever going to take them away from us.

There goes that great idea

Major League Baseball decided to do something different in 2018 - have every team play their opener the same day.
Tomorrow.
Too bad you can't play in rain and bad weather.
The Reds and Nationals will have to wait until Friday.
The rest of the league will start as scheduled, weather permitting.

Going up

Legal Insurrection notes the good news for President Trump amidst the bad news pushed by the media.
Certainly, #TheResistance against Trump has not changed. If anything, the opposition to Trump has gone from foaming at the mouth to … Exorcist-like goo bursting head spins. And that’s just CNN. But something has changed in Trump’s favor. Recent polling consistently shows a meaningful uptick in Trump’s job approval.

It's the perfect time to panic

Greg Gutfeld isn't panicking, but he knows panic when he sees it.
Trump's presidency is a self-perpetuating panic attack: the more you hear people expressing panic about Trump, the more panic about Trump there is.
Chaos is now the new collusion. CNN screams “panic!” Brian Stelter starts breathing into a paper sack. And click-hungry blogs like Mediaite fall in line reporting junk to the power of panic. CNN anchors then read Mediaite to each other, and feel compelled to add a new layer. They're in a panic because of the panic they've been reporting!

Ready to fight

Town Hall's Matt Vespa wasn't surprised by the tone of Saturday's March for our Lives.
He knows Second Amendment supporters have a fight on their hands.
The conservative movement needs to unite and defeat this upswell. This is not just a fight over the Second Amendment. It’s for the Bill of Rights. It’s for the heart and soul of the country that is being put in the crosshairs. This isn’t just some other fight; it’s a deeply entrenched and highly intense cultural one.

Too big to budget

The latest Omnibus budget bill has been blasted throughout the week.
For many good reasons.
The main problem - we shouldn't be doing budgets like this.
Congress used to follow a procedure of budgets for each part of the government.
No longer.
You can't make good decisions with another shutdown looming over the head.
So we continue to make lousy decisions.
And money that shouldn't be spent gets spent because trying to stop it brings the whole house down.
Can Congress get its act together by September 30?
Paul Ryan has wanted to do that for years.
The time is now.

Another reason to be happy Trump won

Hillary Clinton's recent international tour adds reasons Americans should be extremely glad she lost to Donald Trump.
After the comments received backlash, Clinton insisted that she “meant no disrespect” by her comments — but she’s lying. Disrespect is exactly what she meant. In fact, I couldn’t think of a better word to describe her intention. Think about it: If you’re insinuating that you think an entire segment of the population is racist, then you obviously intend to signal that you don’t have any respect for those people. She insists that these things can be “misinterpreted,” and that that’s what happened — but honestly, in what other possible way could she have intended them to be interpreted? (Seriously, if you can think of another way, let me know. I’m waiting.)

The bitter clinger

Via Powerline, the latest from Hillary Clinton blaming her loss on people in the middle of the country.
Watch and celebrate the fact Donald Trump is president instead of her.

He chose poorly

Clay Travis highlights a story about the bad relationship between ESPN and the NFL.
Their former leader appears to have botched the business side with the important client.
In the past, ESPN had executives in place who could mollify the NFL. Over the past two years, though, ESPN did not. Skipper did not engage with the people who matter at the NFL, like Goodell and Brian Rolapp, executive vice president of media, sources said. Skipper, who was known to favor basketball and his relationship with Adam Silver over the NFL and its leaders, never fully engaged in the partnership. He did not socialize with or develop close ties to influential owners, like Patriots owner Robert Kraft and the Cowboys’ Jones. It seemed like the folksy Southerner had little in common with the people at the top of the NFL.
Maybe instead of complaining about President Trump, ESPN could have learned business lessons from him.

Filling out his bracket

The Atlantic asks "Where is Barack Obama?"
The answer is the same this week as this week in March the past nine years - thinking about his NCAA tournament bracket.
The trivial is his priority.

Stand down vs let's do it

Thanks to the time of Mother Jones' piece on the Obama administration's reaction to Russia in 2016, we have an easy comparison between Obama and Trump.
How did the Obama team deal with the possibility of Russian interference? Crank up the bureaucracy.
The meetings followed the procedure known in the federal government as the interagency process. The general routine was for the deputy chiefs of the relevant government agencies to meet and hammer out options for the principals—that is, the heads of the agencies—and then for the principals to hold a separate (and sometimes parallel) chain of meetings to discuss and perhaps debate before presenting choices to the president.
But for this topic, the protocols were not routine. Usually, when the White House invited the deputies and principals to such meetings, they informed them of the subject at hand and provided “read ahead” memos outlining what was on the agenda. This time, the agency officials just received instructions to show up at the White House at a certain time.
Last week as North and South Korean met, the opportunity arose for President Trump to meet North Korea's leader. A few high-level meetings and it was done - faster than expected.
Mr. Trump accepted on the spot, stunning not only Mr. Chung and the other high-level South Koreans who were with him, but also the phalanx of American officials who were gathered in the Oval Office.
His advisers had assumed the president would take more time to discuss such a decision with them first. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, the president’s national security adviser, both expressed caution. If you go ahead with this, they told Mr. Trump, there will be risks and downsides.
Mr. Trump brushed them off. I get it, I get it, he said.

Sounds like success to me

Blue Virginia wails that its liberal agenda got nowhere during the 2018 General Assembly session.
All the ideas that got stopped because Republicans held the majority.
Sounds like Republicans had a successful session.

The trend is his friend

President Trump's approval ratings continue to move up.
The reason he's up, despite the Beltway's over-covered supposed turmoil at the White House, and the Russia,Russia,Russia obsession of the leftwing press, is not hard to discern. Job creation just hit the 300,000 mark, a number we have not seen in about a decade. Taxes went down - and they went down hard for almost everyone. Factories and their jobs are returning to the states. Workforce participation is growing.
Wave the Blue Wave goodbye.

Trump is a genius

Via Don Surber, a glimpse of Trump's prowess from an unnamed Washington insider.
Donald Trump is a political genius. FULL STOP. In the days after his steel and aluminum tariff announcement, I’m told union leadership in this country have been inundated with messages of support for Trump from their members.

Understanding gun polls

Bearing Arms shared a pollster's look at polling on guns.
And why the headlines don't end up matching reality.
Other issues exist such as misleading questions, phrasing that fails to address how strongly someone feels about a topic. This is touched on slightly in the last quoted paragraph, but it doesn’t point out that this can be a willful attempt on the part of some pollsters to try and manipulate public perception. After all, peer pressure is a thing, and it doesn’t only impact school-aged kids.

The all arguments together

Scott Adams attempts to collect many items from the gun control debate into one convenient post.
With an interesting take on gun confiscation.
Gun owners worry about a slippery slope from background checks to gun confiscation. But with hundreds of millions of guns already in circulation, and a gun culture in our DNA, we already have Mutually Assured Destruction if the government were to attempt confiscation. The government itself would fall within a week, in my opinion. I judge the slippery-slope-to-confiscation argument to be a real risk, but a smaller risk than just about any other risk the country routinely discusses.

Wait 'til they get Chick-fil-A numbers

Do companies who come out against the NRA get a boost from gun control supporters.

President Trump plans to run again in 2020.
Are opponents ready?
All of these reasons point to the simple truth that Trump is looking toward the future. His first State of the Union Speech rang with the same optimistic, forward-looking message. Democrats sat on their keisters and glared angrily as he led cheers for America’s virtues and for her untapped potential. So, as the left continues to stew over a past election and #resist, Trump looks to tomorrow and embraces it. He’s started the 2020 campaign season on his terms. He’s welcoming an election that’s a referendum on his agenda. He might be a political novice, but he understands branding and messaging. That’s what we have here.
