Ready for spring

The last big snow of winter turned out to be not much.
Maybe an inch in Fishersville instead of the possible foot they thought possible over the weekend.
I should have known the storm would be a bust when I saw my neighbor working on his snowblower Sunday.
Maybe next year you'll get a chance to use it.

Uber for snow plows

People in Waynesboro are upset - why aren't our roads clear?
Reason one - too much snow.
A storm of two feet of snow is more than expected in our area. If we have two winters with no major snows, how do you explain the cost of unused snow equipment.
Maybe it's time for a Uber for snow plows.
You want your area cleared faster?
How much is it worth you to do that?
A Facebook friend in Maryland found himself stuck and needing to get out - he called Uber.
You may not want to buy a four-wheel drive, but you'd pay for those times you need it.
Clearing your area the day of the snow would cost more, but if you and neighbors think it's worth it, then you'd pay for the help.
Paying your own way probably works better than whining about not getting help.
Especially when everyone's in the same boat.

Clear the storm drains

It's 51 in Fishersville this afternoon, so it's melting time.
Which means you better make sure storm drains are clear and the runoff can run off.
Instead of ponding and becoming a frozen zone tonight.
Don't depend on the government or landlord, do the work yourself.
And also look up as you enter buildings.

How long?

The interstates are clear.
Which is great if you live on an interstate, which no one does.
Augusta County has cancelled school for Monday.
With snow on most residential roads, you're looking Wednesday at the earliest for kids to go back to school.
Maybe.
Just keep digging, and waiting for your snow plow to arrive.

An Obama triumph

Just last month, the Obama administration and governments across the world signed an agreement to halt global warming.
And today, there is no sign of global warming on the entire east coast.
Good job, Mr. President.
Now get a shovel and help us dig out.

The snow started in Fishersville just after 9 a.m.
Areas to the north are waiting and bracing.
Remember the most important thing about storms like this - don't watch too much TV news.

• Yesterday, it was talk about brining the roads.
• This morning, it's standing outside waiting.
• Tomorrow, it's watching 4-wheel drive vehicles and reminding you that you don't have one.

When to take a break from shoveling

Fishersville is digging out from about a foot of snow Saturday.
Temperatures in the 40s are helping.
But when I looked into the backyard and saw buzzards sitting high in a tree beyond the tree, I took the sign to go inside for a while.

Let it warm - save government budgets

If you don't like global warming and want you stop burning fossil fuels, don't you realize what you're doing to government budgets?
All this snow plowing means government budget troubles.
Less money available for your priorities.
If you want government to spend more for your people, let the coal burn.

SuperHog or Ground Bowl?

There's certain times of the year when you like weather forecasting websites - like Maryland's Foot's Forecast and Justin Berk's weather information.
They are focused tonight on Sunday and Monday - will there be snow and how much?
A Super Bowl/Groundhog Day storm.
Whatever happens, I bet Augusta County schools will be closed Monday.

East Coast Super Bowl watchers have to keep an eye on the sky as well Sunday.
But there's good news in a Monday morning snow storm.
If you don’t like winter, cheer on this storm: It would likely keep Punxsutawney Phil from seeing his shadow Monday morning… thus calling for an early spring.

Will there be a dry slot?

It's been a day of snow panic.
Will there be an historic blizzard in New York?
Will there be snow in central Virginia?
Our area looks likely to miss out - depend on the dry slot developing as the storm passes on the way to the coast.
What will the weather be in the morning?

Today's a day to suspend belief.
Highs in the 50s, and preparing for a big ice and snow day.
If you have a convertible, put the top down today.
But don't forget to close it before nightfall.

It's been a while since I visited Mount Crawford weather.
Probably since the last big snow.
They do have a cool webcam set up to catch a snowstorm.
