El Presidente

DaTech Guy has the roundup on Donald Trump's road trip to Mexico.
And the bad day for media coverage of the campaign.
It was in every way a disaster for the left.  Instead of a blithering bombastic racist idiot that they pretend Trump is the American people saw live a diplomatic, determined and debonair leader with a history of making big deals with important people all over the world. And that doesn’t even take into account that Hillary hasn’t held a press conference since forever.

Let's make a border deal

Scott Adams lists reasons to be against illegal immigrants and ways to make a deal around them.
My point is that there is probably a “deal” to be made that satisfies the pro-deportation folks who are not racists. If you want legal justice, and you don’t want outsiders taking your resources, we can probably fix most of that with an intelligent deal.
If Trump asks Americans for suggestions on how to handle deportation humanely, he wins. A big part of the problem is that citizens don’t believe politicians are hearing them on this issue. Trump is listening. If he solicits suggestions, you have half of what you wanted – attention and priority.

Two days to trouble

The 49ers close their preseason in San Diego Thursday.
A very-pro military town due to the naval presence.
How will they greet Colin Kaepernick?
I doubt they'll boo during the anthem if he sits.
Will he play?
Starters usually don't play the final preseason game, but he needs game action if he wants to show he can start this season.
Plenty of boos are likely if he hits the field.
And cheers when the Chargers' defense makes him hit the field.

Does Kaepernick help Trump?

We're now in the second day of discussions about Colin Kaepernick sitting during the National Anthem.
Does he have the right?
Yes.
Was it the right place?
No.
Was it the right way?
No.
People who love the country have the right to be offended.
Not lectured about problems of the country that the media wants us to focus upon.
The media quickly jumped to claim only Donald Trump fans were upset.
There's probably more Trump fans today than Saturday, thanks to Kaepernick.
You can have pride in your country, and the many people who do tough jobs in the military and police forces.
Perhaps Kaepernick can listen and learn from those he's offended.

Most amazing thing about the weekend

What did we learn this weekend?
Everyone has an opinion about the 49ers backup quarterback.

Does he know the third verse?

There's an interesting defense of Colin Kaepernick bubbling up - the third stanza is racist.
The anthem was written a few weeks after a group of freed slaves joined the British in beating the American army around Washington.
Thus, the third stanza discusses the triumph of American soldiers over those freed slaves.
Nice thought.
Does Kaepernick know that's in the anthem?
Doubtful.
Digging up racism in the life of Francis Scott Key may make you feel better, but it really has nothing to do with Kaepernick.
Or the reaction.

Tracking slipping poll numbers

The election is already over.
The media keeps saying so.
The Morning Consult has some interesting numbers for you.
Trump is now within three points, improving each week since the beginning of August.
The Right Track/Wrong Track numbers for the nation are stuck at 29/71, a decidedly poor figure if you’re essentially running on a promise of delivering a third term for Barack Obama. Also, the issues most on the minds of voters seem to be playing into Trump’s hands no matter how oddly he runs his campaign. The economy and jobs remain on top at 36%, but security issues are number two at 21%. Nothing else even comes close.

He's used to sitting

Colin Kaepernick took his stand Friday by sitting during the national anthem.
We surely wouldn't be talking about him because of his performance on the field.
Let him sit.
He did last fall.
And will probably do much bench sitting this year.

Facebook quote of the week

Ace shows how to drive a steak into PETA's heart.

Vote for me or you're a racist

Hillary Clinton gave a speech Thursday trying to tie Donald Trump to the conspiracies of the alt-right side of the internet.
Did she succeed?
Scott Adams says probably yes, although Trump has a good comeback.
Trump has built his brand around the idea that he will protect legal American citizens of all types – who he loves – against bad people in other countries. Trump is saying he’s on Team America. Period.
But Clinton just insulted 40% of American voters by calling them racists. Clinton literally – and publicly – turned on her own citizens.
Trump, by contrast, has attacked only professionals who are in the cage fight against him, including politicians on both sides, and the media.

Best case scenario

Victor Davis Hanson lists the reasons a Donald Trump presidency will be better than one with Hillary Clinton.
Mysteriously, each time he hits rock bottom, Trump — even before his recent “pivot” — begins a two-week chrysalis cycle of inching back in the polls to within 2 or 3 points of Clinton. Apparently Trump represents something well beyond Trump per se. He appears to be a vessel of, rather than a catalyst for, popular furor at “elites” — not so much the rich, but the media/political/academic/celebrity global establishment that derides the ethos of the middle class as backward and regressive, mostly as a means for enjoying their own apartheid status and sense of
exalted moral self, without guilt over their generational influence and privilege.

Another close poll

Drudge Report touts another poll with a close race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
It's UPI/CVoter, maybe not a household name.
But any poll with a tight race is not good news for Hillary Clinton when the media keeps talking blowout.

If we're not there, it didn't happen

The comparisons about the presidential responses to Louisiana flooding miss an important point.
In 2005, the national media descended on New Orleans before the storm hit.
They were stuck there in the mess.
In the current flooding, nobody was on site prior to the event except the locals.
Brian Williams and Shep Smith will make a big deal about a situation when they are experiencing it.
That drives the news, not the newsworthiness of the event.
There's always flooding out there somewhere.

If you like your dad, you vote for Trump

The Progressives at DFA want people to watch a movie "The Brainwashing of My Dad" in their pursuit to get more liberals elected.
See the problem?
Lack of respect for your elders and their experiences.
Instead, they try to blame conservative talk radio for changing their dad's mind.
Do they have so little respect for their dad's intelligence that he could be brainwashed?
Just because he doesn't agree with you doesn't make him brainwashed.
My mother hated Rush Limbaugh for years, and now she's a big fan. She hasn't been brainwashed - she's seen bad things over the years that eroded her support of the traditional Democratic party.
I wonder if a pollster asked people about their experiences with their dads and the candidates.
I'd bet people who have a good relationship with their fathers would prefer Donald Trump more than those with a negative or neutral relationship.
If you trust your dad and his years of knowledge from the game of life, you'll trust a man from his generation - likely with his temperament - to run the country.

Here's the comeback

It's one poll, but today's L.A. Times tracking poll has Donald Trump leading by two points.
Going to Louisiana probably helped.
The numbers are much better than reported in the other media.
When will those catch up?

Do they give money for nothing?

The New York Times looks at the problem with the Clinton Foundation - no matter what they do in the future.
Some emails and other records described donors seeking and in some cases obtaining meetings with State Department officials. None showed Mrs. Clinton making decisions in favor of any contributors, but her allies fear that additional emails might come out and provide more fodder for Mr. Trump.
The Clintons found nice people who only give to help others.
Sure.
That's why they give to the Clintons instead of any of the multiple charities in the world.

"What do you have to lose by trying something new?"

Don Surber likes Donald Trump's new focus on getting the African-American vote.
So what gives? Why is he campaigning in Democratic strongholds, and speaking to rural white crowds about the problems inner city black people face?
First, we are still in the dawn of the general election campaign. Trump is trying to stretch and widen the battlefield by adding Michigan and Wisconsin to Hillary's list of woes.
Second, Trump is training his troops. To counter the rote trope of racism used against any Republican candidate, Trump is showing his followers how they must frame the issue as a failure of Democratic Party policy.

In 2008, Hillary Clinton ran an ad touting her experience when "the 3 a.m. call" comes.

She's definitely sleeping while Louisiana struggles.

Like a prayer

As part of DaTech Guy tryouts, Christopher Harper looks at what NBC misses at the Olympics - religion.
After Usain Bolt of Jamaica, the fastest man in the world, won his third gold medal in the 100-meter sprint, he fell to his knees to pray. The NBC commentators apparently couldn’t bring themselves to utter the word “prayer.”
Many other examples exist, but NBC and other mainstream media have focused on less significant details of athletes’ lives rather than their trust in God. Fortunately, faith-based news organizations have chronicled what the athletes themselves consider their most important characteristic: their belief in God.

Encouraging the Shy Trump vote

Scott Adams shares his ideas on how Donald Trump can turn things around - a combination of things out of Trump's control and things he can do - if his actions are heard and believed.
He touches on the important "Shy Trump voter."
If people think Trump has a chance, they are more likely to take him seriously.
Having that supporter shown in polls would boost him more, since it would draw other "Shy Trump" voters out into the mainstream.
Make the race tight, and Trump can pull it off.

Our political system

Donald Trump's struggles in recent weeks reminded me of this cartoon.
The political class hates Trump because he doesn't act like them.
He tries, but then he reverts to his self and blows up the media.
The media like things as they are, with them providing the access to the political class and maintaining their importance.
But what has the political class given us?
Debt over $19 trillion.
Looming problems not being discussed while minor issues become major woes.
The system is rigged to their styles.
They can climb the political tree better than anyone.
But the times call for something different.
Trump is a genius in his business and reality TV world.
He's trying to help our country with his knowledge from those spheres.
But will his failure to climb the political tree leave us with more of the same?
And only the political climbers happy.

Do Democrats have the right temperament?

The talk of recent weeks has been Donald Trump's temperament - can he handle the job as president.
The last weeks have also shown Democrats don't have the temperament to handle a Trump presidency.
The talk about emails two weeks ago and Second Amendment Tuesday show clearly that anything Trump says makes Democrats explode.
If you think Trump is evil, anything he says is coded language that shows he's unfit.
Even if he doesn't know what the coded language is.
It's going to be a long 90 days as Democrats go insane everytime Trump says something that triggers them.

By the numbers

PJ Media's officer on call - Jack Dunphy is the nom de plume - looks at the recent police shooting in Chicago.
The videos released by the Chicago Police Department on Friday are troubling on a number of levels, not least for the fact that O’Neal was killed. But even exclusive of the grim outcome, the videos reveal the tactical nightmare that can arise when inexperience, confusion, and poor communication among police officers combine in a rapidly evolving, highly stressful event. They also reveal the pitfalls of recording every utterance a police officer might make in the course of such an event, then having those utterances analyzed, dissected, and misunderstood by people who themselves have never experienced even a remotely similar event.

5. OMG
6. HAHAHAHA!

Bush for Trump

Awaiting the Trump rebound

There's still over 90 days until the election.
It's not over.

Do you really want more of the same?

The smell of panic is in the media?
Is Donald Trump going down the tubes?
The same people who said he would implode for the last 12 months are saying this is it.
But they've said it before.
So if it's going to be Hillary Clinton, we need to take a look at what that will look like.
So she's not Donald Trump.

The why behind Trump

Joe Don Briggs leaves the drive-in to explain why people like Donald Trump.
My point is that the Donald Trump voters have consistently told us why they’re voting for Trump, but it doesn’t fit any of the stereotypes and so it’s never mentioned. What’s the first thing out of a Trump voter’s mouth when he’s asked about it?
“I like him because he says what’s on his mind.”
“He’ll say anything.”
“He doesn’t sugar-coat it.”
“He says things no one else will say.”
It’s a political movement based on the First Amendment.
Shouldn’t we, at the very least, be looking at why 40-plus-percent of the American population would feel stifled and silenced? Shouldn’t this be what we’re examining instead of the cerebral cortex of Donald Trump’s addled ego? Wouldn’t this be the reporterly thing to do?

Dealing with the wrath of Khan

Ace asks how long does someone get immunity from criticism due to their son's death.
If you enter the public fray -- and if you insult a presidential candidate -- then you're fair game to be insulted back.
The guy's son was killed twelve years ago. If Trump loses, and then, in 2020, they trot this guy out to insult the new conservative challenger to Hillary Clinton -- is he absolutely protected from insult then, too?
Exactly how long does his Force Field Against All Public Criticism last, even while he himself is hurling Trumpian insults at people he thinks aren't giving Islam enough respect?

It's beginning to look a lot like....

I visited our local Kroger this evening.
There were Halloween decorations for sale outside.
Just 13 more weeks until trick or treat day.
Don't rush the season.
And keep those Christmas things in the back for a few more months.

Big government caused the flash flood

Two people died Saturday when a wall of water roared down Main Street in Ellicott City, Maryland.
And the global warming people have come out.
But let's look at the reasons why Ellicott City might have seen climate change.
Sixty years ago, the countryside around Ellicott City was mostly farms.
There was only one high school in the county that now hosts 12.
And multiple schools with trailers outside.
Why?
Big government in Washington.
The more people government employs, the more housing that must be built on former farmland and forests.
More housing, more roads, more blacktop for driveways.
