Ride the wave vs. Don't get cocky, part II

The second time Instapundit picked up a post of mine, it was "Don't get Cocky" vs. "Ride the wave" in the summer of 2010.
Rich Lowry's column this week goes to that theme.
The wave - Hilary Rosen's bumble.
Lowry goes the "Don't get cocky" route - it's the economy that really matters in 2012.
The Rosen business is such fun. And it's not the main story, just a sidelight.
Like cheerleaders at a college football game. It's a nice diversion on the way to pummeling your opponent on the field.
The Mama Grizzlies are fired up and ready to go. If you're not sure about Mitt Romney, you are sure you want to beat President Obama and the Democrats in November. Beat them bad.
This wave will go away.
We'll look for the next wave.
And keep pounding the economy between the swells.
UPDATE: Thanks for the Instalanche, Professor.

Cantor - better than the Boob Czar

We have a new record day for hits on the blog - thanks to Instapundit linking my post on Eric Cantor's primary selection in Illinois.
He posted it just before midnight, giving it the prime spot atop the page for seven hours.
It jumped over 10,000 shortly after 4 p.m., not bad for a 16-hour period.
The post surpassed the previous record - the Boob Czar - but that didn't make the page until late morning.
I hope Rep. Cantor is happy with the interest.
UPDATE: Linked by SWACgirl.

Having a good day

Nice temperatures.

Cantor knows what he's doing

Illinois had its primary Tuesday, and one district had a battle between Republican incumbents redistricted together.
Blue Virginia noted how foolish it was for Eric Cantor to pick sides, going with the younger Tea Party favorite - Adam Kinzinger.
What would happen if "crusty conservative Manzullo" won over Cantor's endorsement?
No problem.

Republican

VotesPct.
Adam Kinzinger 43,65355.9%
Donald Manzullo 34,46044.1%

UPDATE: Instapundit knows what's he's doing, picking up this post.
UPDATE2: Kinzinger won election in November 62% to 38%.

Instapundit - the Johnny Carson of the digital age

I'm gearing up for my appearance on DaTech Guy's radio program Saturday night.
Why am I, a lowly blogger from central Virginia, getting the air time in Massachusetts? DaTech Guy asked for some content ideas for his new show back in December and I sent him an email. He asked me to be a guest - along with American Glob - and that's providing content.
I've enjoyed reading DaTech Guy's stuff over the past year, since I found him when the Other McCain headed north for the Scott Brown special election. Now, I consider him "The Fedora-topped embodiment of the Tea Party movement."
Look at his story. This time last year, he's a guy looking for a job to support his family. Now, through his hard work, he's supporting the family with a radio show, articles on the internet and some help from Instapundit.
His one-hour of radio time expands to two in February. Instapundit appeared on the show two weeks ago, and often links DaTech Guy's good work. (And hopefully he'll link a note about this week's broadcast sometime Saturday evening). That got me thinking about Instalanches.
Like Johnny Carson in his late night career, Instapundit can be the kingmaker for bloggers. Comics would hone their craft for a chance to get on the Tonight Show, and hope that Johnny would call them over to sit on the couch. Just a minute with Carson could launch a career - it showed you had real potential.
Just ask some who sat on Johnny Carson's couch after a stand-up bit - Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman, Jay Leno.
There's so many bloggers out there, hoping their insight gets noticed. Many toil away in their own areas, and an Insta-lanche gives hope. A series of Insta-lanche can show they've arrived.
DaTech Guy's hard work has him moving up. His base in Fitchburg isn't far from New Hampshire, where Republican candidates will be flooding in a few short months. Who's going to be the first to advertise on DaTech Guy's show, or appear as a guest?
I'll be there Saturday. Just riding in the wake of hits from Instapundit and DaTech Guy.
UPDATE: Instapundit links. DaTech Guy links and will have the podcast up from the show in a few days.
UPDATE2: Because Johnny Carson is much better than Ben Bernanke.

A good day

A fine Sunday in Fishersville.
Beautiful weather.
The Ravens beat the Steelers.
The Braves made the playoffs.
I got an Insta-lanche.

President Obama vs. QWERTY keyboard

Look at your keyboard and you'll know why President Obama has failed.
Your keyboard is the QWERTY keyboard, a legacy of the early typewriter, designed in the 1870s. We don't have typebars inside our computers to produce letters, but the QWERTY keyboard lives on.
Your grandmother or great-grandmother might not know how to operate a computer, but they would know how to type on one. The keyboard has basically been the same for 125 years.
President Obama rode high in 2008, promising "Hope and Change". Change ran into legacy systems. And legacy systems are winning.
How does QWERTY survive? Everyone who types knows it. They learned it when they were young. Once you've learned it, you barely have to think of it. It's natural.
Another keyboard system would bring tons of errors. The fastest typists would take lots longer to type until they learned it. And would be extremely unhappy at whoever forced them to change from what they learned and knew so well.
In his campaign, President Obama's rhetoric focused on the imagined "nefarious cabal" who led the country into the ditch. Change the leadership - to him - and the country would change.
He forgot the legacy systems. They stay not because of the decisions of a "nefarious cabal," but because they've worked for years. The newer alternatives can't overcome their problems. Instead, President Obama leads the "nefarious cabal" trying to disrupt everyone's life.
Think of all the things you remember from your childhood. Even if you're in your 70s, you remember plenty of what you learned in those early days.
You're comfortable with them. Even if you're a hunt-and-peck typist, you have a certain level of comfort with the QWERTY keyboard. Something new would disrupt you.
In the Oval Office, President Obama must use a QWERTY keyboard. He should look at it sometime.
Every day, thousands of journalists sit at their keyboards and write about politics. The reason for the Democrats' failures is right under their fingers.

Instalanche afterglow, part two

I enjoyed my second-ever link on Instapundit earlier Friday.
Best traffic day of the year and second-best to the first Instapundit link.
More hits in an hour - for eight straight hours - than I've had on any day this summer.
With over 2,740 hits, I hit the minimum daily number to reach a million hits in a year. All I need to figure out is getting a link on Instapundit every day of the year.
It's been an enjoyable day.
But I know. Don't get cocky.

I'm riding the wave...

..of an Instalanche. Welcome and thanks, Professor Reynolds.

Don't get cocky vs. ride the wave

Instapundit has often used the phrase "Don't get cocky" after describing good polling news for the Republicans or tea parties. Maybe it's good to be cocky. Really cocky.
The more enthusiasm on the Republican side, the more likely the opposition will be down and unable to match the enthusiasm. Which leads to mistakes that can turn close Democratic wins into close Republican wins. To reverse the last two election cycles, the enthusiasm must be on the Republican side and discouragement on the Democratic side.
I'd like to see the Republicans win 111 more seats - one for each panel, commission or government entity in the health care plan.
Too big? Probably. But you've got to dream big to win big.
Living in the sixth district of Virginia, we have no worries of a Democratic win. No Democratic candidate is running. They tried in 2008, and lost despite coattails of Barack Obama and Mark Warner. With no potential coattails this year, no one is trying.
Instead, Democrats not used to challenges will be seriously challenged. The list of competitive races grows as the election gets closer.
The wave appears to be building. Don't rest on your laurels, but put yourself in perfect position to ride the wave to victory.
It's just like bodysurfing on the ocean. The wave is there and you just have to find the sweet spot. Instead of missing the action, you're propelled to the shore with great speed and enjoyment.
UPDATE: Instalanche. Thanks, Professor.
UPDATE2: The Other McCain joins the linkage. It's a daily double.
UPDATE3: Welcome readers from Ace of Spades.

Insta-lanche afterglow

Instapundit picked up a post of mine Thursday. Thanks to Bob of the Journey for providing the picture and SWACgirl for getting the picture to me back in September.
What did the Insta-lanche do to my stats?
In 24 hours since the post, almost 10,000 visits. It was over 2000 visits in the 11 o'clock hour Thursday, about seven percent of Instapundit's traffic heading over here. (He posted a link to his sitemeter last spring. BTW, in 2009 each month he had over 10 million visitors).
I had seen the flag counter app on another site. I was going to wait until the new year to add that, but instead loaded it about noon. I have had visits from 56 countries since then. That's what you call a worldwide web.
Finally, thanks, South Florida Tea Party. May we see the Boob Czar again in 2010.

Best of the year - the Boob Czar

It's easy for me to remember the post that got the most hits this year. It's from September.
Bob from the Journey blog made it to Washington Saturday and caught the Boob Czar and her entourage - the Czar of Transparency and a Green Czar.
UPDATE: Now this post has the most hits of the year. Thanks, Instapundit.
UPDATE 2: And don't forget to visit the home of the Boob Czar.
