Weekend watchdog

During years of futility, Washington baseball was known as "First in War, First in Peace and Last in the American League."
The 2019 Washington Nationals have ended the futility, bringing the World Series to the capital for the first time since 1933 - as National League champion.
They will face another city that switched leagues, as the Houston Astros represent the American League after being born the Houston Colt 45s in the National League expansion of 1962.
The Nationals pulled out a 5-4 victory Tuesday to open the series, then blew open a close game in the seventh inning Wednesday en route to a 12-3 win.
Fox has coverage of Game 3 Friday at 8 p.m., with Game 4 Saturday at 8 p.m. There will be a Game 5 Sunday night if Houston can win a game at Nationals Park.
If necessary, the series returns to Houston Tuesday and Wednesday.
Fox has Eagles-Bills Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cardinals take on the Saints on CBS at 1 p.m. before the Browns battle the Patriots in the late afternoon slot.
The Packers tangle with the Chiefs Sunday night on NBC, with Dolphins-Steelers on ESPN Monday night.
The college football weekend continues Friday as Colorado clashes with Southern Cal on ESPN at 9 p.m.
The ACC network has Virginia's contest with Louisville Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Boston College against Clemson at 7:30 p.m.
CBS has Auburn's contest with LSU at 3:30 p.m.
Ohio State battles Wisconsin on Fox at noon, followed by TCU-Texas at 3:30 p.m.
Oklahoma visits Kansas State at noon on ABC and it's Penn State against Michigan State at 3:30 p.m. In primetime, Michigan hosts Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m.
ESPN starts its day at noon as Miami meets Pittsburgh.and Minnesota has a matchup with Maryland at 3:30 p.m. Top-ranked Alabama hosts Arkansas at 7 p.m. and Washington State visits Oregon at 10:30 p.m.
Iowa takes on Northwestern on ESPN2 at noon and Florida State faces Syracuse at 3:30 p.m. Central Florida meets Temple at 7 p.m. with Air Force tangling with Utah State at 10:15 p.m.
Iowa State clashes with Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m. on FoxSports1 and it's Texas Tech-Kansas at 7 p.m. California's contest with Utah closes the night at 10 p.m.
NBC Sports Washington offers Duke-North Carolina at 4 p.m.
Towson takes on James Madison on MASN at 3:30 p.m.
Martinsville hosts NASCAR this weekend, with the Monster Series going Sunday at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports network. The Truck Series goes Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on FoxSports1.
The Wizards tangle with the Thunder Friday at 8 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington before meeting the Spurs Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
The Pelicans - without injured Zion Williamson - host Dallas at 8:15 p.m. Friday on ESPN with Jazz-Lakers in the nightcap.
The Capitals face Vancouver Friday at 10 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington-plus.
The National Women's Soccer League has its final Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.
NBC Sports Washington covers the Marine Corps Marathon Sunday at 7 a.m.
Miami meets Georgia Tech in women's college volleyball Sunday at noon on NBC Sports Washington, followed by Boston College-North Carolina.
