The Big Zooey Theory

It's the first week of the new TV season - which shows will catch our favor and which ones will be forgotten in November?
We know Dustbury likes "New Girl." People have noticed.
Is the show any good?
We know it's not reality-based. Cute girls just drop in on a group of guys and bring their friends. All. The. Time.
Big Bang Theory started with one girl and now has one for every nerdy guy.
Zooey's new show has Hannah Simone as the first of many potential models to visit the apartment.
As long as the ratings stay high enough.
UPDATE: Dustbury has an eye on the opening show's ratings.

Zooey, version 2

Dustbury keeps up with the Zooey news, and remembers my comment when the show debuted.
Good enough reason to run a 2011 photo of Hannah Simone not looking like Zooey. You'll have to visit Dustbury to see that.

Dustbury has the links

Dustbury brought together a group of interesting tidbits.
Having two boys, the one that caught my eye involved the Nintendo Wii. They have purchased a few older Nintendo games to be played on the Wii. But as of now, those games could not be transferred to a new system.
Games make the system, not the color, right?

In honor of Dustbury

For many years, I'd read the blogger Dustbury. And sometimes he'd mention me.
He passed away in 2019, but he'd be happy to see the Oklahoma City Thunder as top seed in the NBA Western Conference.
A team to root for.

Dustbury advances

Among the features of Dustbury's blog is roundups of Oklahoma City Thunder games.
The Thunder won Friday, moving to the conference semifinals.
More posts with observations on Kevin Durant and crew to come.

Men, men, men, manly men men

On Facebook, Don Surber noted that Oklahoma City is the manliest city.
We await comment from Dustbury.
UPDATE: The Dustbury comments are up.

15 years on the net

Dustbury celebrated the 15th anniversary of his blog Saturday.
The first newspaper I worked at traced its roots back to 1797. Dustbury has had the same author all those years, but it's been a long trip on multiple platforms and coding.
Here's to many more good years.

Sad day in the blogosphere

Visiting Dustbury this weekend, there was nothing posted since Tuesday.
Not good.
He posts multiple times a day, and has since 1996.
Today comes the news that Charles Hill passed after being involved in a car accident that day.
From his perch in Oklahoma City, he was a true internet star.
He supported this blog from almost the beginning and I've visited his place numerous times.
And it picked up items from me, making the posting of items more enjoyable.
A favorite?
When my dad found his manual for Office 97 in 2014, I knew Dustbury would like it.
And he did.
Rest in peace, friend.
UPDATE: Thoughts from Roger O. Green and Fillyjonk.

Fantastic Mountains Jeopardize Retail Activity

This week's roundup is in honor of my short trip to West Virginia. I went to see the Bluefield Orioles play rookie league pro baseball, but left before the Orioles won in 12 innings. I did get to chat with a friend from my former church and our former youth pastor, who now runs a center from area youth out of an old school building.
But you can't talk about West Virginia without mentioning Don Surber. He's inviting Creators Syndicate to move to Poca, since Los Angeles taxes are getting them down. Is there a better school nickname than the Poca Dots?
Now that I've been on Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley, traveled the Robert C. Byrd Appalachian Highway System and passed the Robert C. Byrd hardwoods center along the WV Turnpike, it's time to link some bloggers who are not Byrd-brains.
Carol brings together President Obama and Chevy Chase for a special edition of her roundup.
Smitty sends traffic hurling through the web after posting the Other McCain's jaw-dropping FMJRA roundup. It includes a link to this story from DaleyGator. Not what you want to read before seeing this.
Gator's weekly roundup seems safe enough.
Pat is trying to chill out in Shreveport, where's it's a lot hotter than Fishersville. Here, we're wrapped in blankets at the end of Fourth of July festivities.
Troglopundit finished a fine "you email me, I'll link it" week with plenty of stuff from American Power. Pundette graciously handed over the crown from the previous link contest.
Grandpa John is the go-to guy for news of animals in the Badger State.
Dustbury adds his thoughts and suggestions after signing up for Twitter.
Generation Patriot offers a scenic Utah view in his roundup.
And no weekend is complete without Smitty's Rule 5 Sunday.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and take a break from blogging when needed. Although you never know when a good picture will present itself.

I can drive --- 135

Dustbury publishes a photo.
Is it proof of breaking the speed limit?
On the other hand, if I’m driving that fast, and as a general rule I’m not, I’m also not simultaneously grappling with a frigging camera.
Sorry officer, it's a photoshop.

Rocking Sooners

Oklahoma had a 5.1 earthquake Wednesday.
Dustbury has the report, and an idea of who to blame.
I opined at the shop that maybe this was due to folks emigrating from California; like Tom Joad in reverse, they brought everything they could, including a fault line or two.

0-for-Harbaugh

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 10-4 on the season.
0-3 in games against John or Jim Harbaugh.
10-1 in games coached by someone not named Harbaugh.
Three other teams can finish the year 0-for-Harbaugh - Cleveland, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
NFL teams should call "You have any other relatives?"

UPDATE: From Facebook, three coaching options for NFL teams.
UPDATE2: Linked by Dustbury.

All in favor say "Rib-eye"

Dustbury now has a steak in the upcoming Oklahoma legislative session.
Thanks to a bill to designate Ribeye Steak as the state steak.
Our government at work.

Fiesta Makes Job Really Attractive

Mexican president in Washington? It's a fiesta.
Read these blogs, then take a siesta.

Datech Guy is headed to Atlanta for on the ground reporting.
Troglopundit is thinking about Brett Favre. What else is new?
Obi's Sister has the latest in fashion for the younger set.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Spice up your life with some Thyme, help your friends and sharpen your focus on the future.

Coming attractions

Dustbury found someone who found Dory.
Hope the movie doesn't end like that.

97 for 79

We celebrated my dad's 79th birthday Sunday.
Recently, his computer began acting flaky and my brother found him a new laptop to use.
We just needed to find Microsoft Office for him to finish the transition.
Do we buy a new license when he's used Office for years?
No, but how do we get the old applications moved over?
Fortunately, he saves stuff. Like the Office 97 CD and brick of a manual from back in the 20th century.
And it loaded fine.
Thus, three days before 2015, I loaded Office 97 on a computer.
UPDATE: I thought Dustbury might like the story. I was right.
