Weekend watchdog

For the three-day Labor Day Weekend, many will watch college football players begin their season's labor.
The 2017 season gets going Friday when Rutgers battles Washington on FoxSports1 at 8 p.m. and it's Wisconsin-Utah on ESPN at 9 p.m.
Top-ranked Alabama and third-ranked Alabama begin their season in Atlanta Saturday at 8 p.m. on ABC. Penn State meets Akron at noon, with a top 25 battle between Florida and Michigan from Cowboys Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
Notre Dame faces Temple on NBC at 3:30 p.m.
Oklahoma clashes with UTEP on Fox at 3:30 p.m. and Purdue plays Louisville at 7:30 p.m.
ESPN starts its day at noon with Kent State-Clemson, then goes to Charlotte for South Carolina against N.C. State at 3 p.m. Georgia faces Appalachian State at 6:15 p.m., and the day closes with BYU-LSU at 9:30 p.m.
Maryland meets Texas on FoxSports1 at noon and it's Washington State-Montana State at 10:30 p.m.
FedEx Field hosts Virginia Tech and West Virginia Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and Texas A&M clashes with UCLA from the Rose Bowl on Fox at 7:30 p.m. South Carolina State faces Southern on ESPN2 Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The weekend closes Monday night when Tennessee takes on Georgia Tech at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
The Orioles continue a series with the Blue Jays on MASN, while the Nationals visit Milwaukee on MASN2.
FoxSports1 offers a pair of contests Saturday, with Cardinals-Giants at 4 p.m. followed by the Angels against Rangers. The Diamondbacks and Rockies battle on TBS Sunday at 3 p.m., and ESPN closes the weekend with Yankees-Red Sox Sunday at 8 p.m.
NASCAR visits Darlington for Labor Day weekend, with the Southern 500 Sunday at 6 p.m. on NBC Sports network. The Xfinity Series goes Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The IndyCar circuit heads to the Glen Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on NBC Sports network.
NBC Sports network carries the Italian Grand Prix Sunday at 7:30 a.m. There's qualifying Saturday at 8 a.m.
For a different kind of horsepower, NBC Sports network has the Woodward Stakes Saturday at 6 p.m.
ESPN2 has middle rounds of the U.S. Open, with coverage Friday at 7 p.m. The third round continues Saturday at 11 a.m., with round of 16 play Sunday at 7 p.m.
Netherlands meets Bulgaria in World Cup qualifying Sunday at 11:50 a.m. on ESPN2. FoxSport1 offers Czechia against Germany Friday at 2:30 p.m.
