Undefeated teams watch

It's usually too early to talk about undefeated teams after Week 1, but Week 2 offers a sparse collection of matchups between 1-0 teams.
Thursday, the Bills host Detroit - both 1-0.
Sunday, it's Bears-Vikings early and Cardinals against Seahawks in later afternoon.
Ten of the Week 1 winners get to face a Week 1 loser - including the Sunday and Monday night prime time games.
So we should have a good supply of 2-0 teams in seven days. The 1972 Miami Dolphins are watching.

Undefeated teams watch

Through four weeks, only two teams remain undefeated - the Bills and Eagles.
They are scheduled to meet Dec. 28.
Can both make it to the matchup 15-0?

Three of them in the NFC West.

The Rams visit the Eagles at 1 p.m.
The 49ers and Seahawks clash at 4:25 p.m.

I've seen worse

It's taken a few days to get over the Ravens' loss to Kansas City.
Taylor Swift instead of Lamar Jackson in Las Vegas in two weeks.
But I'm old enough to remember other losses - some worse than this week's.
Like the 1969 Orioles losing in the first baseball season I followed. I went to my first game at Memorial Stadium on June 28, 1969 and watched them lose the World Series - while the world celebrated the Amazin Mets.
The Colts left Baltimore bereft of NFL football until Art Modell brought his team to town.
I work at the University of Virginia. Hearing 2018 and UMBC still hurt.
Unfortunately, every sports season ends with one winner and multiple teams preparing for next year.
Winning a championship is sweet - but joy is fleeting.
Enjoy the game - even if your team is not on the sideline.

Undefeated teams watch

The Eagles and Bucs are about to kickoff in the lone Week 3 meeting between 2-0 teams.
Only Miami and San Francisco have reached 3-0.
Tonight's game might be the last matchup between undefeated teams in 2023.

What have you done for me lately?

It's franchise tag day in the NFL.
Lamar Jackson received the "we like you, but not sure we want to marry you" tag from the Baltimore Ravens.
We'd like you to stay, but if you find a better deal, take it.
Jackson was great in 2019.
Until the playoffs that year.
Too many injuries since then.
Too many other quarterbacks have passed him since.
Younger, cheaper quarterbacks keep flowing out of college.
Good luck, Lamar. But the Ravens can keep more good players if you move on.

Undefeated team watch

The 1972 Miami Dolphins can celebrate tonight - the last undefeated team of the 2022 season has suffered their first loss.
Washington couldn't give Miami a loss in Super Bowl VII, but it did against the Eagles Monday night.
Pop the champagne again, Dolphins.

Undefeated team watch

We're in week 4 of the NFL season, and only one team has made it this far unscathed - the Philadelphia Eagles.
Who expected that when the season began?

Undefeated teams watch

Five teams have made it through the first three weeks 3-0.
One - the Los Angeles Rams - have their second straight game against an unbeaten opponent when Arizona comes to town on Sunday.
The Panthers, Raiders and Broncos round out the 3-0 crew.

Undefeated teams watch

With most of week 2 done, there are seven teams with 2-0 records.
Two of them will meet next Sunday, with Tom Brady and the Bucs taking on the Rams.
The 1972 Miami Dolphins will be watching, just like they have for years.

"Be nice to your sister"

After Tom Brady beat Drew Brees in Sunday's NFL playoff game, the duo had some time together.
After Brady threw a pass to Brees' son in the end zone, he had final advice for another son before leaving.
"Be nice to your sister."

Washington (pause) Football Team

Back in 1994, Baltimore had a Canadian Football League team when the NFL didn't grant the city an expansion team.
The new owner decided to call them the "Baltimore CFL Colts."
The NFL Colts didn't like that and sued, so the team began the year without a nickname.
At games, the announcer would say here's your Baltimore CFL (pause) team.
The fans took advantage of the pause to yell Colts.
The Redskins have a lot longer history - and probably fans will call them that name for a while.

Good job, Big Ben

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in trouble with Pennsylvania Governor Wolf.
Big Ben dared to get a haircut and his beard trimmed.
How reckless.
I usually don't like the Steelers, but Big Ben gets kudos for this action.

#Purplepain

Purple teams went 0-for-3 in playoff games Saturday.
But someone with purple in their scheme has to win Monday's college playoff finale.

Baltimore's Heisman house

It's rare for an NFL team to have more than one Heisman trophy winner on their roster.
The Baltimore Ravens have three.
And all three were in the backfield for a play Sunday.
Griffin said he had been patiently waiting for the play to be called.
“We’ve been asking for weeks and weeks,” Griffin said. “All of us are pretty dangerous with the ball in our hands. It worked out.”
The razzle-dazzle was part of the Ravens’ third touchdown drive, and it was another example of the creativity being featured in each week’s game plan.

Undefeated team watch

The Ravens handed the Patriots their first loss Sunday, leaving just one undefeated team in 2019 - San Francisco.
The 49ers will enjoy being the only unbeaten for at least the next seven days - before they meet Seattle on Monday night on ESPN.
