Saturday song

The word of the weekend - especially Sunday afternoon.

Facebook quote of the week

The former First Lady said women that didn't vote for HRC, didn't hear our inner voice.... I heard my inner voice just fine. And another one said there is a special place in hell for women that didn't vote for HRC....I thought they didn't believe in heaven and hell? And I am a deplorable, racist, blah blah blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah....

Outkick in the head

Politico unveiled a profile on Outkick the Coverage's Clay Travis Friday.
Travis' producer wasn't impressed.
If you read the Politico article, you’ll notice he quoted me several times in the roughly 4500 word piece. I probably spoke over ten thousand to him myself, but he picked about six sentences. Before I discuss those, let me explain how the interview went down. I can’t accurately describe how many times I was asked some variation of this question:
So, did Clay Travis make a conscious decision to appeal to the right for monetary and celebrity purposes?

Bad news for Northam

Encouraging words from a Democrat today - the governor's race doesn't appear to be going their way.
Making Republican observers happy.
For those of you who remember the mantra “Let Ken Be Ken” in 2013?  The Northam campaign now finds itself in a rather odd admixture of Cuccinelli 2013’s errors and Deeds 2009’s inability to execute.

But they love Roy Moore more than Trump's candidate in the primary.
Strange.
Very Strange.

Sunday in Baltimore, there will be a big game between the Ravens and Pittsburgh.
Which team do you support?

Remember the replacement players

When it comes to the NFL and the national anthem, we know one thing - Donald Trump will stand firm.
There will be no apology.
He will look for a deal, and might well remember the NFL action from right after his USFL folded.
You remember the 1987 players strike, and the replacement players?
The NFL players went on strike after the second game.
The owners hired replacement players to continue the schedule after a week-long break.
And some stars broke ranks from the union.
Joe Montana and future Congressman Steve Largent among them.
The players stood together for a few weeks, then the dam broke.
The strike ended and the season resumed.
We'll see how these players stand together, and for how long.

Undefeated team watch

Several teams entered Sunday's play without a loss.
Only two left at 3-0 - Kansas City and Atlanta.

I enjoy the NFL and I enjoy Trump

I look forward to NFL Sundays.
It's a great way to enjoy the day.
I enjoy watching Donald Trump in action.
He seems to enjoy running the country - and driving many people crazy.
I support both.
It's possible to do.

Trump knows his audience

President Trump's approval ratings have begun to tick upwards.
What should his detractors think?
The man knows box office. Just think of how this is going to drive the “resistance” left out of its mind. Chuck and Nancy are “normalizing” Trump. He can’t be “literally Hitler” if Chuck and Nancy keep smiling on the couch and announcing the framework of deals.
Trump keeps on out-smarting those who think he's not so smart.

And I think it's gonna be a long, long time

Did you enjoy President Trump using "Rocket Man" in Tuesday's speech to the United Nations?

Cause I think he's gonna be there a long, long time.

Mowing 'em down

Ed Driscoll gives a lengthy look at the boy who mowed the Rose Garden lawn - and the over-the-top reactions.
This photo-op is such a pretty nifty small win all around for Trump; it humanizes him next to the 11-year old kid and by reminding voters how much PR Giaccio is going to get now that he can use this in his marketing efforts. Having Giaccio at the White House wanting to promote his business contrasts Trump with Obama trolling America via “clock boy” last year. And the White House PR team had to know when they scheduled it that someone in the DNC-MSM would find some way of freaking out – Trump could say “Nice day today,” and a lefty scold would shout, “But what about global warming???!!!!”

Keep abreast of the situation

Kurt Schlichter enjoyed watching the exchange between the CNN anchor and her interviewee who likes two things.
And wants to fight those who demand silence from the conservative side.
Basically, if you don't have any female body parts, you're just wrong all of the time. Unless you have fake female body parts and betrayed your country; then you are America's greatest hero and a martyr to Harvard's infamous legacy of transphobia. Or something.

Well hung fellow

Harvard withdrew its offer for Bradley/Chelsea Manning to be a fellow.
Manning hung up when getting the news.
Manning ended the conversation on Thursday as the dean, Douglas Elmendorf, tried to justify to her his decision to cancel the fellowship only a day after it had been announced. The dean had said he needed to talk to Manning “urgently” after CIA figures first raised their objection to Harvard offering the whistleblower a place among its 2017-18 visiting speaker program – raising the prospect that one of America’s most prestigious academic institutions had kowtowed to pressure from the intelligence services.
Why did Harvard do this?
I guess they decided to rely on intelligence.

Understanding Trump

Scott Adams brings his ideas to today's news about the dreamers and border security.
Trading Imaginary Assets for Real Ones: If we believe initial reports from Pelosi, Schumer, and Trump, there will be some sort of deal for greater border security in exchange for allowing DACA folks to stay in the country. But realistically, the DACA folks couldn’t have been rounded up and deported without a civil war. So President Trump traded an imaginary asset (the idea of deporting the DACA folks) for something potentially real in terms of greater border security funding.
If you doubt Trump today, you join a long line of people who didn't think he'd become president.

What else you got, Democrats?

Legal Insurrection wonders if Democrats are overplaying their hand with Trump hate.
So there’s something going on here that the Dem insiders are picking up that rings true: People don’t have to like Trump to vote for him. And the more people attack him hysterically and unreasonably, the more they help him.

Your time is up

Will Hillary Clinton really get out of the way now?
It’s not hard to guess why Hillary might want to keep going. She lost a winnable race to a candidate the left hates. If she exits the stage now it’s pretty arguable that Trump’s presidency becomes the last word on her legacy. Hillary clearly is not ready to accept that.

On the solar and wind front

The looming hurricane has climate change proponents in action - this storm is so bad because you don't listen to us.
So solar and wind power and we'll have a better future, they say.
They point to Europe.
But Germany is going to fall short on its targets for 2020.
The German government has targeted a 40 percent reduction of GHG emissions by 2020, as compared to 1990 levels, but with less than three years to go the country remains far from achieving that goal. Berlin already admitted that the 40 percent goal likely wasn’t possible, and instead lowered its sights to a 35 percent reduction, but even that seems unlikely now. A new study from the green think tank Agora Energiewende says Germany is likely to achieve only a 30-31 percent reduction.
Maybe nature has more input into the hurricane than man's energy use.

Happy "Watch TV reporters get drenched" day

It's Hurricane Irma landfall day.
People are snug in their shelters, or outside the storm zone.
TV reporters from all the networks are spread across the state.
Getting wet.
Getting blown by heavy wind.
Plenty of coverage of stock footage over phone calls with city officials in the storm's path.
I've just summarized the whole day on the network.
You can watch other things most of the day and be informed.

Our finest whine

The excerpts from Hillary Clinton's new book get better and better.
Instead of the Russians, now it's Bernie's fault.
Bernie Sanders and his male followers.
She said that his attacks against her during the primary caused "lasting damage" and paved the way for "(Donald) Trump's 'Crooked Hillary' campaign."
Clinton, in a book that will be released September 12 entitled "What Happened," said Sanders "had to resort to innuendo and impugning my character" because the two Democrats "agreed on so much."
Nothing will boost your standing among Bernie supporters more than saying they enabled Trump.

Dream on

President Trump's decision on the Dream Act - end it, maybe mend it - has the political world enflamed again.
Will Trump really pull the plug?
Will Congress offer something people will like?
Which way will Obama's entrance push the discussion?
One thing's for sure.
Nobody's talking about Russia this week.

Not a good look

The Virginia campaign season traditionally begins with Labor Day activities in Buena Vista.
There's a breakfast, then a parade and speeches in a local park.
Democrats came for the breakfast.
And skipped the rest of the activities.
Guess the people of Buena Vista don't fall for Democratic scare tactics like other areas in the state.
