Trump 2020 booster shot

Friday's vote on witnesses finally gives us a timeline for the end of impeachment.
Senators escape Washington Saturday and Sunday.
They return Monday, talk some more and then Trump gets acquitted Wednesday - after Tuesday's State of the Union address.
He'll be back for the 2021 State of the Union.
How many Democrats in the audience will be returning?

Why Trump still stands

Mollie Hemingway lists the ways President Trump has beaten back the impeachment onslaught.
With a histrionic media and political base spending the last few years demanding impeachment, House Democrats surely had hoped that President Trump would do something justifying an impeachment inquiry. They undoubtedly were not pleased when the best they had to work with was Trump asking for help investigating Ukraine’s known 2016 election meddling or investigation into Biden family corruption in Ukraine.
So they started with a weak hand. But they failed to follow a good process. They didn’t have the House authorize an impeachment inquiry until late in the process. This decision made it unlikely that the many early subpoenas they sought would be deemed valid by a court of law if contested.

Here comes Bernie Claus

It's less than a week until the Iowa caucuses.
Democrats are starting to fret about Bernie Sanders' support level.
What is undeniable is Democratic establishment nervousness about Sanders. The basic worry is that he is so far to the Left that the party might end up nominating the only candidate President Trump can beat.
Keep on worrying, guys.
You've got nine months to watch the worst outcome you fear come true.

Farewell to Kobe

Since the news broke around 3 p.m., the airwaves have been filled with memories of Kobe Bryant.
It reminded me to check Dustbury, who chronicled the NBA before he passed in September.
Sure enough, the search engine found Kobe's final road contest in 2016 was in Oklahoma City.
It was the last home game of the season, which was one event: it was Kobe Bryant’s last-ever road game, which was another. The combination of the two was a bit baffling at times, but the desired results were obtained: Kobe knocked down 13 points in the first quarter, in Kobe-like fashion, and the Thunder, after a 10-point lead at halftime, went on to trounce the Lakers 31-13 in the third quarter on the way to a 112-79 blowout. And there was lots of purple and gold in the house, an appreciation for a man who almost always played like he had his eye on the Hall of Fame.

Thus says the bully

Blue Virginia highlights one of its commenters on impeachment.
The reader supposedly demolishes the arguments on the Trump side.
But the post ends with this.
I honestly don’t know how you Trumpanzees can honestly say with a straight face that this is supposedly about “us” simply not accepting the election results. But bullies project their own tendencies onto to others, especially the victims, all the time. I guess this is not surprising with Trump and his deplorable followers.
Way to be persuasive.
I doubt you'll feel any better at the end of the week.

Nobody cares. It's the saddest thing ever

Althouse checks out Maureen Dowd's latest on impeachment, and the sad cry from the Senate gallery.
One Democratic Senate staffer mourned the apathy. 'Our phones aren’t ringing,' he told me. 'Nobody cares. It’s the saddest thing ever.' One side of the room seemed to be smirking
Which got her thinking.
Sounds like a lament from a female teenager from back in the days when people talked on the phone. Here's the song that drifted through my head...
Bobby Vinton's Mr. Lonely goes great with impeachment coverage.

Enjoy your day, all star

Impeachment of Hunter Biden

President Trump's side gets its time in front of the Senate, starting Saturday morning.
How will it go?
When will Alan Dershowitz speak (that's what I want to see).
Will Hunter Biden be a big part?
If the Ukraine call was impeachable, it would be because there was nothing wrong with Hunter Biden's deals there.
If President Trump had good reason to question Biden's connections with Ukraine, now is the time to tell us.

Bring on the Bidens

Andrew McCarthy thinks the Democrats made a mistake in their early arguments against President Trump.
In sum, the House’s chief prosecutor represented to the American people that President Trump had asked his Ukrainian counterpart to fabricate a false case against Biden. In any court in America, that would open the door to the Trump defense team to show that this was not the president’s intention at all; he was simply asking Zelensky to look into a situation that cried out for an inquiry.
In light of Schiff’s explicit allegation, the president is entitled to an opportunity to show that there was reason for him to believe that a notoriously corrupt Ukrainian energy company had retained Hunter Biden and paid him a fortune despite his lack of qualifications; and that later, despite the blatant conflict of interest, then–vice president Biden extorted Ukraine into firing a prosecutor who was investigating the company, threatening to withhold $1 billion in desperately needed funds.

Billy the kid moving on up

Billy Wagner nearly doubled his Baseball Hall of Fame votes this year, moving to 31.7% after five years on the ballot.
I watched him pitch many times in high school.
It will be very cool to see him get to Cooperstown.
Hopefully, in a few years.

Nobody likes Bernie

Hillary Clinton hits the interview circuit again - and comes down hard on Bernie Sanders.
But there are some fun parts to the story, including Hillary’s unsurprising opinion that “Nobody likes [Bernie Sanders], nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician. It’s all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it.”
Of course, some of this is Hillary’s bitterness at what she thinks was the sexism of Bernie’s challenge to her in 2016: “It’s his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women. And I really hope people are paying attention to that because it should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture — not only permitted, [he] seems to really be very much supporting it.”
If there's anyone who knows about being unlikable, it's Hillary.

Getting stronger every day

PJ Media tells the good news about the United States in 2020.
The labor participation rate is breaking records. Unemployment is at historic lows across all demographics. Wages are increasing, faster for those at the lower income levels than for those at the top. China has agreed to a historic trade deal. Congress (finally) passed the new US-Mexico-Canada trade deal which will create jobs across the continent. The stock market keeps breaking records despite impeachment. There’s almost too much good news to pack into one paragraph. It all points to growing American strength just a few years after President Barack Obama mused aloud about a “post-American world.”

Rise of the disgruntled koala

Kurt Schlichter catches up on the Democratic candidates - and Bernie's rise.
Let’s be clear about one thing – Bernie Sanders is not cute and he’s not funny. He’s an unrepentant adherent of a vicious ideology that has butchered better than 100 million people in the last hundred years. The risk of electing a doctrinaire Marxist is open civil war – with his murder-fetishizing acolytes on the anti-freedom side along with the Never Trump True Conservatives™ who contend that True Conservatism™ demands we submit to communist rule because Trump tweets mean things at fugly celebs.

She speaks with forked tongue

Remember when

Mark Steyn remembers when Donald Trump went to Vermont as 2016 dawned.
The headline in Friday's local paper read: "BURLINGTON TRUMPED". That's what his fans liked. In the liberal heart of a liberal state, the supporters streaming out of the Flynn Theatre, waving genially to the social-justice doofuses across the way, couldn't recall a night like it. Not in Vermont. In New Hampshire, sure. In South Carolina. But not in Vermont. It felt good to be taking it to the other side's turf. And they'd like a lot more of it between now and November.

Could have.
The last week will make the rest of Harry's life a lot tougher.

Beating the dead ERA horse

Virginia Democrats think they are the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, meeting the 3/4 of states needed to have the amendment make the Constitution.
Except the amendment originally had a seven-year time frame to ratify - which expired when I was in high school.
There was an extension until 1982 - which expired when I was in college.
And five of the 38 states have voted to pull their ratification.
Can ratification only go one way?
The courts get to continue to deal with this issue.
If you'd like the amendment in the Constitution, a new decade is a great time to start.
Virginia is one, work on the other 37.

Given what we’ve seen from the deep state I hesitate to give a lot of credit to the Government however I do presume they know more about this than me and from what I’ve seen from Donald Trump I trust him to make the right choice from this list (or a different one that I haven’t thought of) based on what he considers in the best interest for the country given the realities on the ground.

Do you follow the world?

The United Methodist Church has proposed a split over the ordination of gay clergy and the question of gay marriage.
The "Traditional Methodists" will consist of some American churches and more outside the States.
For liberals who blast American thoughts and praise those outside the country, why don't they follow the beliefs of their brothers around the world - and ban gay marriage?
