Weekend watchdog

Many college football teams dream of making the end of the season playoff field.
A few of those dreams will be dashed the first weekend of the season.
The big weekend continues Friday at 8 p.m. as Colorado clashes with Colorado State Friday on ESPN, and FoxSports1 offers Kansas State against eighth-ranked Stanford at 9 p.m.
Action Saturday starts at 7:30 a.m. from Ireland, with Georgia Tech taking on Boston College on ESPN2.
The ACC network carries Virginia Tech's opener against Liberty Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Third-ranked Oklahoma faces number 15 Houston on ABC at noon, and fifth-ranked LSU battles Wisconsin at Green Bay's Lambeau Field at 3:30 p.m. Top-ranked Alabama takes on Southern Cal from the Cowboys' home in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
CBS has Texas A&M battling UCLA at 3:30 p.m.
ESPN starts its day at noon with Michigan meeting Hawaii. Georgia tackles North Carolina in a top-25 contest at 5:30 p.m. and its second-ranked Clemson against Auburn at 9 p.m.
West Virginia hosts Missouri at noon on FoxSports1, with Arizona-BYU at 10:30 p.m.
Comcast brings Boise State's battle with Louisiana-Lafayette at noon and Towson tangles with South Florida at 7 p.m.
Alcorn State takes on Bethune-Cookman Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN.
Notre Dame tangles with Texas Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on ABC and it's fourth-ranked Florida State meeting Mississippi Monday at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
The Orioles host the Yankees for the weekend on MASN while the Nationals play the Mets on MASN2 Friday and Saturday.
FoxSports1 has a pair of contests Saturday, with the Rangers meeting the Astros at 4 p.m followed by Tigers-Royals. TBS offers the Giants' visit to the Cubs Sunday at 2:20 p.m. and ESPN has Nationals against Mets Sunday at 8 p.m.
Darlington hosts NASCAR for Labor Day weekend, with the Southern 500 on NBC Sunday at 6 p.m. The Xfinity race goes Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and the Truck series goes Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on FoxSports1.
NBC Sports network has the Italian Grand Prix Sunday at 7 a.m. There's qualifying Saturday at 8 a.m. after practice Friday at 8 a.m.
IndyCar's Grand Prix at the Glen will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on NBC Sports network.
The PGA tour visits Boston Sunday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 1:30 p.m. on NBC.
There's third round play at the U.S. Open Friday at 1 p.m. on ESPN and 6 p.m. on ESPN2, continuing Saturday on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday begins the round of 16 at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
The Breeder's Cup challenge has the Woodward Stakes Saturday at 5 p.m. on NBC Sports network.
