Don Surber brings the latest on reconciliation. I'm more confused than ever.
From Senator Kent Conrad's column:
“Reconciliation is not being considered for passing comprehensive health-care reform. Major health-care reform legislation passed the Senate without reconciliation on Christmas Eve. If the House now passes that legislation, it can go immediately to President Obama’s desk to be signed into law. What the president and others have suggested is that, after the House acts, reconciliation could then be used to pass a much smaller fixer bill to allow for modifications to the comprehensive bill that will have passed under regular order.”
So reconciliation is the sweetener to keep the House from gagging on the Senate bill. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
Surber has a good suggestion at the end of his post.
When Republicans take over Congress next January, I suggest every Democratic senator remaining be assigned a broom closet for an office and the party be reduced to one member per committee.
Oh, and their parking spots will be three blocks away.
It’s all about the office space, committee assignments and parking spaces.
That's change I can believe in.

What exactly is "an up or down vote"? Do these idiots really think we can't see Reconciliation no matter what label they use?
I like your list of "changes" you would implement - would add one to it...no more staff members for reading their bills...and no typing staff for writing the bills. In fact, no computers. Manual typewriters. Ribbon type. With no eraser tape. Maybe that will slow them down some.
