Can't sell ice cream in the desert

You've heard the old saying about a good salesman - "He can sell ice to an Eskimo."
Would you say about a bad salesman that "He can't sell ice cream in the desert?"
David Brooks opened his mouth, Michelle Malkin took a whack and I saw the link Pundette posted.
Brooks contrasts the "educated class" with the American people, especially the tea party movement. Way to toss gasoline on the fire, Brooks. Malkin catches the spark.
New York Times columnist David Brooks will never let an opportunity pass to remind you that he is an intellectual and you are a grimy member of the unwashed masses. His column today pays a back-handed tribute to the success of the Tea Party movement…while bemoaning the decline of influence among the “educated class” (e.g., David Brooks and Friends).
I know it's hard to see your group as the source of the problem, but it's helpful here. Maybe the "educated class" aren't that smart after all. Definitely not smart enough to sell their side of things to the rest of the country.
And not smart enough to realize describing themselves as the "educated class" doesn't persuade.
Time for Brooks and friends to take a really close look at the tea party movement. They know how to persuade. Maybe Brooks could learn something.
