George Will highlights the council of Comparative Effectiveness Research from the House's stimulus bill.
CER would identify (this is language from the draft report on the legislation) medical "items, procedures, and interventions" that it deems insufficiently effective or excessively expensive. They "will no longer be prescribed" by federal health programs.
Now, if such a council said half of all lawyers were insufficiently effective and thus would now be trained to work in child care centers, I might support it. It would be scary for the kids, but maybe we have too many lawyers. Can we stimulate a discussion on that?
