The worst “cultural imperialism” going on in the world today is actually the problem of rich Westerners deciding that the material blessings and long lives they enjoy should be saved for themselves only, and people in poorer countries can get along just fine without such things–and holding to this, over the protests of those poor people who would actually like better food, indoor plumbing, insulated houses, affordable transportation, jobs, enhanced longevity, and all these other things that the American and European left are so intent on “saving” them from.

Various agencies, agents and entities did their jobs just as they were supposed to do, creating a set of circumstances in which Obama had no other choice politically. They couldn't simply let him go! So, he did what he always does under those circumstances, the same thing he had done to create them - he acquiesced.
In the end, other than whomever actually pulled the trigger, a bodyguard following instructions, or a brave member of SEAL Team Six that, one or the other of them acting as trained and instucted under their own circumstances, no one actually decided to kill Osama bin Laden - it was circumstances.

In the afternoon, you have the running of the Kentucky Derby on NBC, starting at 4 p.m. Lots of horses start but only one leaves Kentucky with a chance to win this year's Triple Crown.
Before the flag drops for the Southern 500, the Nationwide racers will go Friday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
The second round of the NBA playoffs continues this weekend with doubleheaders each day. Friday, ESPN shows Game 3 of the Bulls' series with Atlanta at 7 p.m., followed by the Lakers-Mavericks.
Saturday, ESPN has Game 3 of the Thunder-Grizzlies series from Memphis at 5 p.m., then ABC offers the Heat at Celtics at 8 p.m. Sunday's it's back to Dallas for the Lakers-Mavericks at 3:30 p.m. on ABC. Game 4 of the Bulls vs. Hawks will be at 8 p.m. on TNT.

An image we don't want to think about
We can't see the image of Osama bin Laden dead - too disturbing.
We can hear about this image - if bin Laden had been found naked, the Seals might not have shot him.
It also emerged today that the only way Bin Laden could have avoided being killed in the raid by U.S. forces is if he was naked.
The elite U.S. Navy Seals team that killed him was told to assume he was wearing a suicide vest if he was clothed, according to a briefing given to a congressional aide.

Fake bin Laden picture
This bin Laden thing keeps getting weirder.
Now, members of Congress say they were shown a photo of bin Laden dead that was actually a fake.

It's often enjoyable to read Blue Virginia - the doom and gloom of the true believers on the left as the election approaches.
Teddy has a lengthy post on a "rah-rah" conference call that left him cold.
The entire call was like coach's pep talk at half-time when things look a little shaky for the home team----- or, better perhaps, a corporation staff meeting where a vice-president rolls out a supposedly new/old program, and all subordinate functionaries, whatever their secret opinion of the program, brown nose like crazy to earn points for their blind loyalty. In other words, kabuki theater.
Obama winning in 2012 depends on exciting people who voted for him in 2008. They aren't excited now.
I don't think there's anything that can excite them. Which means we have a year's worth of Obama people begging a lethargic people to be excited - just because.

Tracking the tracker
SWACgirl examines the life of Alan, the Democratic tracker. She doesn't think she could do his job, but check out the benefits.
He'll mind this tongue, stick to the issues and roll back into the Senate.
Alan the tracker, and his Democratic buddies, will have been there - part of history.
And each night, they fell asleep knowing they stood there with a camera - and got nothing.

Before I went to sleep Sunday, I heard the news about Bin Laden.
As a former newspaper reporter, I knew what was coming - long wait with little additional information.
Mark Steyn watched the speech, and gives his take.
Personally, I would have liked bin Laden’s death to have been announced by whatever lowest-level official was manning the nightdesk at the Department of Nondescript Bureaucrats, preferably reading it off the back of an envelope. But, if you’re going to put the head of state on TV to announce it himself, it would have been better to have been all brisk and businesslike.
Today and this week are for the aftermath.

What hath the stimulus wrought
Did Democrats catch Bob McDonnell Sunday on Meet the Press?
Nah.
Did Democrats show the only thing the stimulus did?
Yep.
The stimulus didn't boost the economy. It just shifted deficits from the states to federal government.
States didn't have to make tough spending decisions. And state officials - Democrats and Republicans - could claim credit for the money flowing from the federal government.
McDonnell is smart to claim credit. It's hard for Democrats to attack him without making themselves look bad.

Amazing modern technology
Thanks to Xbox Live, you can play video games with people around the world - or across the street.
The youngest and his friend were playing this afternoon. From our game room, you can see her house.
I fixed him some pizza rolls, and he told his friend. She said she would like some too, so he began imagining a way to push a pizza roll through the system and internet to her.
His imagination wasn't fast enough. She said "I think there's something coming through the earpiece."
An Xbox system that delivers food. Now that would be something.

A different kind of Sunday
My church does an annual "Compassion in Action" Sunday. Instead of the usual services, members fan out across the county to help our neighbors and show the impact of Jesus in our lives.
I waited until the last minute to choose a project, and found the free car wash could use assistance. So we packed up and offered our service to the community.
WHSV-TV has done stories on our church before, and today continued the series. The script info went up after the telecast, and I'm awaiting to the video to link that.
