Honeysuckle time

Our backyard line is an old fence filled with honeysuckle. I decided to take some pictures, and the boys and some friends followed.

I hadn't realized I had never taught them how to taste the honey from a honeysuckle. It took a little effort, but I think I've got them hooked.
A nice part of spring.

Just yesterday I was commenting about the things we did as kids and how those things don't even exist in our pristine neighborhoods with our manicured lawns. Honeysuckle was one of those things - I haven't seen any in years. Great story.

Hey Mike -- the honeysuckle was blooming at the Outer Banks last week while we were there. Somehow I had never noticed in the past that it grew on the sand dunes. We saw lots around Pea Island and Oregon Inlet. Reminded me of you!

And, yes, we always sucked the sweet nectar out of the honeysuckle like that, too, as kids. Glad you're passing that along to the next generation!

Have fun!
