NRO's MediaBlog reports on plans in Pittsburgh to charge $36 a year for exclusive content on the website of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
And Rupert Murdoch's trying to figure out ways to charge for news.
Good luck with that.
Suppose there's an exclusive story. It's big. You want to read it, but don't want to spend the money.
Search Google or Bing or whatever. Some news organization outside the firewall with run a brief synopsis of the story. Somebody with access inside the firewall will put it on their site, to drive traffic their way.
A firewall is only as strong as the weakest link. If it really matters, it will get outside the firewall. If it doesn't matter, you can wait until it's released to the non-paying public.
