End of life discussions

So Sen. Mark Warner is unhappy with how some have talked about "end of life discussions" as part of health care reform.
Perhaps we need to do an exercise to understand it better.

"Public option is sick and dying.
"We could use heroic measures to try and save it, but the outlook is not good.
"There's a bunch of foreign infections. And the anti-rejection drugs don't seem to be working on the right cells.
"We could pour a bunch more money into the effort to save public option, or just cut our losses.
"Even if public option makes it through this time, it's not going to be the same public option you've dreaming about. It won't be able to do what you think it should.
"We've got to think of the future. How much money do we spend on public option when we have car payments to make?"
