Since the Obama administration has done such an outstanding job vetting appointees, maybe next transition it should be the bloggers' turn.
Hire bloggers with a nose for news. Give them a name and see what they find on google. If you can make it past a blogger panel, there likely won't be surprises later.

You use the words "Obama administration" and "news" in the same context.
I do not think those words mean what you think they mean when used in that combination.
This actually a pretty good idea. If McCain had done this he might have picked Pawlenty instead of Palin.
